This is a bit of a ribute to my friends that were in Papua New Guinea whilst I was charging around NZ. My arrival in Sydney coincided with there return too so I got to meet up with Alison and Leona. I was chuffed to see friends, whilst they were pleased to just have running water. The Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth is a unique organisation being the only commonwealth NGO to represent Agriculture. I think Im right in saying there are over 9billion people in the commonwealth so that is a lot of representing.
The RASC was established by the Duke of Edinburgh who is still the organisations president.
I was fortunate to take part in the 2006 conference in Calgary Canada representing the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society and taking part in the Next Generation forum. The NG forum is made up of young people from throughout the member organisations that play a roll in them. The NG group are going from strength to strength having another sucessful conference in NV in 2008. But the NG group are doing more than that. In the alternate conference years they undertake what has become known as an understanding and assistance mission to a part of the developing world in the commonwealth. They have been to Zambia and last year to PNG.
There is lots more information about the RASC and the NG groups work ofn the RASC website.
Well done to everyone that took part and for the great work you have done helping these people and communities to improve their skills and quality of life. Hopefully some day I will get to take part too.
The next RASC conference will be hosted by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland and will take place during the Royal Highland Show.
